SIGNIFICANCE OF PRANA PRATISTHA

The highest attainment of human life is idealised as moksha and the same is idolised as the vigraha in our temples. In simple words liberation is darshan of Parmatma and the same Parmatma is worshipped in the temples as the idol.

Human mind cannot conceive that which is beyond all conceptions of time and space therefore as an aid to rise above the limitations of time and space, the scriptures have prescribed a method called 'Murti Puja'. This method is most effective for seekers at all levels of evolution.

The ritual of consecrating the idol for puja etc is called as 'Prana Pratishtha', installing the life force in the form / idol.
